day 13
this is the yusof ishak house, venue of the bits and bites event. bits and bites is an orientation activity organized by the office of students affairs with the participation of the international students society and the graduate students society.
in this event, new students come to party, participate in games, try food from different countries and showcase their country's culture via booths.
so here's how it looks. a sea of students cramped in one venue.
the boat is sinking, group yourselves according to height!
this is the singapore booth which hosted a lot of activities.
find the singlish words is one of them. in fairness, medyo mahirap sya.see this group of girls? thats what theyre doing. finding the singlish words.
biruin mo, ang relak pala ay isang commonly used singlish word! hindi ko nga lang alam kung singular din ng relax ang ibig sabihin nun haha
meron ding postcard writing. cute little postcard.
so syempre, gumawa ako. and because im only alloted one postcard, sa office ko na lang pinadala para siguradong makakarating. pag sa bahay baka tangayin ng pusa ng kapitbahay. phia, please share this postcard with everyone
including mae and dez haha
this is the iran booth.
a girl writing my name in persian.
one of their traditional drinks. milk with water and salt and i dont know what else. i tried it and its ok, a bit salty and sour. para kang uminom ng suka na medyo mild.
this is kaachy. its made of flour, oil, etc etc. panghmagas yata nila.
date ball. nope, its neither a date food nor a gift for your date. its a ball made of dates. its sweet and is served for dessert.
i also tried shirazi salad, the one on the lower left part.
this is the indonesian booth.
the vietnam booth.
the malaysian booth.
where students play sungka. its an innovative way of creating a modern day sungka.
and holen hehe pare pareho lang pala ang laro ng mga batang asyano.
some girls asking for bindi from the indian booth
and here's a little girl having her arm tattoed
may mga tournament ng sipa
and traditional javanese dance
there were also bands and other games like pomelo peeling contest, etc etc.
went home at around 815pm. this is how the school likes by that time.
i've been standing here waiting for the bus
on a Saturday, from an orientation night (paumanhin sa eheads)
these are my take-home for the night. a magazine, a free shirt as a prize, my name written in persian, and an eraser from the international friendship group with our flag on it. pero ang nakasulat na pangalan, filipina.

i had my first successful blood donation last friday! my first try at donating was in 2006 but i didnt fill one bag because the nurse said there was some problems with my blood consistency. found out later on from makati med that should have there been any problems with the consistency, they shouldnt have allowed me to donate in the first place. the reason for not successfully filling out an entire bag is usually attributed to a wrong insertion of the needle. argh!
this is ms ces, she underwent an operation last tuesday at the makati medical center. i was showing that zesto pouch because thats my reward for giving out 450ml of blood hehe
vida and phia are pouting because they also wanted to donate but were screened out by the hospital :( dont worry friends, there's always a next time =)

getting our hands, este one finger lang pala, dirty
katulad ng ilang milyong botante, excited ako para sa eleksyon ngayong taon. there seem to be an increased number of people who are more than willing to exercise their right to suffrage. and people have been seriously following all kinds of debates on national tv in their attempt to get to know the candidates better. plus, this is the first time we'll be doing an automated elections.
i went to aguinaldo elementary school and easily found my voting precinct: clustered precinct 898. i proceeded to the area and was directed to go to the holding area first. the system was ok. people were given numbers and instructed to queue. medyo matagal lang at mainit but it was bearable. there were 2 people behind me who were talking about the line saying its way too bearable than the enrolment in up. tama! buti na lang sanay ang lola nyo sa pagpila. =) i also noticed that theyre giving priority to senior citizens. hindi na sila pumipila. very good!
after about 50 minutes, i was one in a group of 3 who were directed to go to the voting precinct. this explains the long line, 7 precincts (under the manual elections) clustered into 1.
this is how the actual voting precinct looks like. maayos.
after a few minutes, i fed my ballot to the PCOS machine and voila! had my vote counted! i was voter number 290 in my precinct.
and finally, had my forefinger inked.
plus a cup of wendy's frosty after the entire thing.
here's to a clean and reliable automated elections!
thanks to dick gordon! (sorry hindi ko mapigilan hehe)

words
because i have a lot to say but cant properly thread them altogether
logs on. browses mail. notices an unfamiliar sender. reads the title. smiles. opens mail. reads the first line. surprised! continues reading the next few lines. grins. cant believe it. reads again. finally believes that its true. shouts with glee. dances with joy. jumps up and down. screams!
stops. thinks of facts. calms down. contains happiness. prays. hopes with crossed fingers and eyes closed.
-----
phone rings. talks to the person on the other end of the line. worries. wants to cry but must not. worries some more. pray.
thinks. compares. wishes. pray some more. cry. writes.
extremes
one day, you receive a splendid surprise. then you get a "challengingly hard" news on the next.
these make you rethink your options. are you going to stay or keep on chasing your dreams?
you wish that life is perfect. that once an opportunity is presented to you, you can just grab it easily so that you can live happily ever after.
but life is not. there's a lot of crossroads. we all have our crosses to bear. and in moments such as this, you just surrender everything to Him and pray that He will guide you to the road that he prepared for you.

blogging
havent blogged in quite some time. yeah this happens every now and then, mostly because im busy with school requirements but this time, school doesnt take much of my internet hours. blame it on facebook instead.
facebook is a neat site. i only got hooked to it for less than a year i think. i was a multiply baby before that. but when everybody i knew started having their own page on that site, i became a part of the mob. and soon i was spending hours playing new applications and posting one-liner shoutouts and waiting for people to comment to my new posts.
but now, im missing this, blogging. i want to go back to it. facebook is ok but blogging is better. makes one more introspective and keeps one more updated about oneself. hence, i promise to myself that ill write more this april.

more than 3 years ago...
after mau's despedida earlier, us northeners stayed behind to reminisce our ricogen days not so long ago. we had coffee at starbucks greenbelt 1 where we used to hold our office at the other side of the road. now, the area is being developed into a commercial condominium.
then we strolled along the sidewalk of aguirre, where we stayed for more than 1 year. and of course, we had to do some photo ops at "our park" where we used to stay during lunch breaks.
on the outside, nothing much has changed except for some new bars in the area.

classified.exe
whoever created that classified.exe virus, i hate you.
it started when i noticed a folder named classified.exe in one of my flash disks. i tried to clean it but failed. then my antivirus stopped working. at first, i just couldnt update it but after a few days, it totally refused to launch. so i asked help from my office friend who knows about this stuff. but when he tried booting it, ayaw na. huhu and we tried again. but it still didnt boot.
so he tried that system restore thing. ayaw pa rin. tried again. ayaw pa rin. until we were left with no choice but to do destructive reformatting.
so there, i hit that button. and everything was gone. poof!
bye bye files. bye bye 3 years of my life. memory na lang sya.
ill just make new ones.
