bloody. gory. brutal. gothic. dark.
i finally went to see sweeney todd tonight. i got curious about the movie after i read the review. i dont know but the thought of someone killing people so casually (while singing at that) and feeding them to unsuspecting people later is just different. ok, not so different. fine, its because of johnny depp!
i see sweeney todd as a movie about revenge. its about this ordinary barber who was sent to jail by a nasty judge (see: prof snape, bellatrix and wormtail were also there). his wife, who eventually got mad, was raped by the same judge while his daughter was locked ala-rapunzel. so when he got out of prison, guess what he wanted to do...you got it! yes, he wanted revenge! and its revenge that he got. too bad, it backfired on him. so the moral lesson is, dont. =)
the movie was full of blood. it's like a musical kill bill for me. the grotesquerie of it. blood spilling from the throat of todd's victims. or seeing the ground (human) meat coming out of the grinder. its really nauseating. or imagine eating a delicious meat pie and suddenly realizing that its made of human meat. argh, thats cruelty defined.
but it was also fun because its like watching a horror film, covering my eyes with my jacket and peeping while waiting for him to cut his victim's throat. i cringe everytime there's a scene like that, which was a lot. we were seated beside a group of college guys and they were doing the same. haha naghahampasan nga lang.
if in case you wanna see the movie, dont bring meat pie baon. you wont eat it. believe me =)
depp was really good. he deserve that best actor award. the review said that his voice doesnt sound that good in the film but it is perfectly fine for me. it doesnt sound far from how ewan mcgreggor sang in moulin rouge or antonio banderas in evita.
